“Lair of the Evildoer Coming to XBLIG”

By: Mr. Deeke

Going Loud Studios has announced it’s new roguelike shooter with rpg elements called Lair of the Evildoer will be available on the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace on Friday June 17th, 2011.  VVGtv also covered the title in another article, announcing that it was in development by the independent XNA studio.

Lair of the Evildoer is quite an enjoyable title, and I had the pleasure of playing a beta build of the game and to preview/playtest it. Overall it’s a mashup of many genres, and gamers are sure to have fun blasting their way through level after level of undead monsters and labyrinthine maps. Navigation is akin to classic roguelikes, and the level system with attributes borrow from the RPG genre of gaming.

There are also a wide variety of weapons to use in the game, from rapid fire assault rifles to powerful short-range shotguns and everything in between. Players can even use melee weapons like bats with spikes to defend themselves against the ghoulish undead.

Take down a myriad of different types of undead monsters and zombies in this Indie mashup that’s unlike many of the standard XBLIG zombie shooters on the market. There are mini-bosses and mega bosses to fight as well to vary things up a bit, and players will find that different weapons are more useful that others against specific enemies. Using strategy and tactics is also advised, as it’s easy to get overwhelmed in these sorts of game.
